CAPE TOWN- President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that South Africa’s national lockdown will be extended by two weeks, beyond the initial 21 days.
His announcement takes national lockdown tentatively until the end of April.
Ramaphosa made his announcement from the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Thursday evening ahead of the Easter long weekend.
“There is sufficient evidence to show the lockdown is working. We are only at the beginning of a monumental struggle, we cannot relax and we cannot be complacent,” he said.
During his address, he revealed that as of Thursday evening the country’s Covid-19 related deaths stand at 18, and 1934 people have tested positive.
Ramaphosa’s address comes after a meeting held with the National Coronavirus Command Council held yesterday.
